The following are not inclusive of all mission rules but will help you to have a head start on what to expect in the mission field.
Music
Appropriate music can be a powerful source of inspiration. Missionaries should select music that increase faith in Jesus Christ. Music should be sacred invite the Spirit, and be uplifting. Appropriate music is defined as anything on the Gospel Media App, Shared Music App, or Instrumental
(Missionary Standards for Disciples of Jesus Christ 3.6.3).
Books
All of the approved books and reading materials you need are available in the Gospel Library App. Please do not bring other books with you.
Calling Home
When you communicate with other people (besides your family), you should limit your communication to email or letter and not by phone or video chat, unless approved by your mission president. (Missionary Standards for Disciples of Jesus Christ 3.9)
You may communicate with your family on your weekly preparation day via letters, emails, text messages, online messaging, phone calls, and video chat.
Missionaries initiate all communication with family. Calls should last no longer than 1 hour.
Personal Visits from Family and Friends
Generally, family and friends should not visit you during your mission. Washington D.C. has a high frequency of family members visiting the area. The mission president will only approve a visit under special circumstances.
Musical Instruments
Seek approval from the mission president prior to bringing an instrument to the mission field. If an instrument is approved, the type of music you play on the instrument should be sacred, dignified, and suitable for missionary work.
