Washington D.C. South Mission

The Northern Virginia Area

  • The Washington D.C. South Mission is geographically located in Northern Virginia bordering Washington D.C. to the northeast, the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west, and just past Quantico Virginia to the south. It is the smallest mission geographically east of Utah. Government, military, technology companies, and their supporting industries dominate the economic and social landscape. The area's population is made up of many diverse cultures and religions. There are large international communities from South America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Nine church stakes fall within the mission boundaries.

History of the Area

George Washington's beloved residence of Mount Vernon lies within the mission boundaries along with many of the civil war's historic battlefields. The CIA's headquarters, the Pentagon, Arlington National Cemetery, and Old Town Alexandria's 18th-century townhouses and cobblestone streets add to the historic atmosphere of the mission.
